4th Suspect Wanted For Allegedly Shooting At San Bernardino Police Surrenders

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — The fourth suspect wanted in connection with a shootout last Friday with San Bernardino Police has surrendered, according to authorities.

Officials said James Love Jr., 29, surrendered to police in the 1400 block of E. 9th Street around 6:45 p.m. tonight without incident.

Last Friday, a two-man patrol car stopped a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. Officials said two of the four people in the car began firing at them. The officers returned fire, striking both suspects.

Eric Newson, 22, and Keijuan Mayfield, 22, both had non-life threatening injuries.

A deputy was also shot in the leg.

The two suspects were both taken into custody. Two other suspects — one a 14-year-old juvenile and the other identified as Love — fled the scene.

Suspect Mayfield was released from the hospital within hours of the shootout and sent to County Jail. Newsome remains in custody in a hospital jail ward.

The juvenile was identified and arrested four days later.

Authorities said the shooting suspect’s weapons were recovered at the scene.

The District Attorney’s Office has filed two counts of attempted murder and weapons violations against each of the suspects. The Juvenile was charged as an adult.

Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Reported In Huntington Beach

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say one person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Huntington Beach.

The shooting occurred at Glencoe Drive and Silver Lane, according to the Huntington Beach Police Department. Reports of the shooting surfaced about 10:40 am. Saturday.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were hurt.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately available.
